tree portraits

I wanted to portray the 'personality' of these 'green monuments' which are often overlooked, but which are as important a part of our cultural heritage as ancient buildings.

These images are hand-coloured black and white images taken with an old large format camera. I used the classic camera and hand-colouring (both techniques used in early photography) as a way of acknowledging and referring to the great age and historical importance of the trees.
